New Challenge

New Challenge
I've still been fasting on and off (actually fasting intermittently, on and off) – I’ll speak of that later. I have a new challenge, however, more keenly in my sights. I’m in Edmonton, Alberta for the summer. It’s essentially a three-month vacation, and I’m spending a lot of great time with the kids. However, I have been unable to focus on writing, as I intended. Frankly, I’ve been unable to focus at all. My days mostly consists of fixing food, cleaning up after same, laundry, homes schooling the children, and copious leisure activities. I’m getting in lots of bike rides, a bit of swimming and running, picnics, trips to the park, to watch street performers, to the movies, etc. But very little alone time or time focused on some of my summer goals, such as learning to speed read, finishing and selling a book, creating a web page

We don’t have a TV, which is great for the kids – they just play outside, play games, make art, make friends, do computer stuff, etc. Trouble is, since they range from 4 to 9 years of age, most of this stuff involves parental attention of some kind. It’s a pretty safe bunch of apartments we live in, with lots of green space, but I do keep one eye and ear out when they’re outside. This week the wife’s away with my eldest, leaving me with fewer kids and no help.

None of that accounts for the lack of focus. I’ve just been remarkably lazy. Now, to a certain extent, that is the point of a three-month vacation, especially given how hard we were working before we came here. But I do not want to spend the next two months drifting, then wonder where it all went.

So – I’ll stop there, since my goal for writing is just 15 minutes today. I’ve got a huge old list of things to do. I’m going to start with some body discipline: eat better, do Flow Fit & get enough exercise to wear me out so I sleep well.

Wish me luck!
